Eleanor Moreton

Moreton’s recent work has further evolved into an enquiry about image-making and a dissection of those cultures which produced the photographs, paintings or illustrations she works from. The images chosen are specific cultural artefacts, products of a historical/geographical place and refer repeatedly to psychoanalysis, European history (particularly Austrian) of the last 200 years, homes, the feminine and literature. Recurrent themes within the work are Queens, interiors, Freud and Austria. Hers are paintings of longing and ambivalence, nostalgic and sentimental, yet analytical and critical.

Eleanor Moreton was born in London, 1956 and lives and works in London. Solo exhibitions include 'The Lady of Shallot' Jack Hanley Gallery, New York, 2010 and 'Im Wartezimmer' Ceri Hand Gallery, Liverpool and Harewood House, Leeds, 2010.
